It’s always an exciting moment when fellow women make waves in the automotive world, especially the male-dominated sport of motor racing.

Prosecco all round, then, as this weekend, Douglas Motorsport’s Jamie Chadwick made single-seater history as the first woman to win a British F3 race, after winning at Brands Hatch.

After being told she was the first female winner ever, Jamie said, “This win is more about showing that it’s possible. When I’m on the money I know I can be the quickest or one of the quickest. Today show’s that it’s possible and nothing to do with my gender.”

The 20-year-old racer from Bath started in fourth, quickly racing up to second place. After the leader, Pavan Ravishankar, was given a 10 second penalty, Jamie cruised home to a gold place finish. “I knew that [Ravishankar] was going to get a penalty but I was hoping it would be a drive-through so I could get my head down and I wanted to win on the road.”

There’s just six more rounds to go, at Donington Park and Silverstone GP, with Jamie currently sitting eight in the championship. Come on girl!
